Paddy Joe works intuitively with materials and processes collected from sites of geographical, historical, and cultural significance. Through the use of repetitive processes such as weaving, printmaking, and drawing as analogous forms of making, he develops his own fabrication methodologies and logics through the lens of vernacular and esoteric craft traditions. This approach allows him to construct a material/visual language that emerges from process, place/space, and accumulated knowledge / relying on doing and failure as a regenerative tools.Contact: pad-jo@hotmail.com
A core concern is the preservation of traditional crafts through practice rather than static archival methods, focusing on preservation-through-doing, experimentation and innovation. Through weaving, he explores the ways in which objects carry both individual and collective meanings and how these are continually reactivated through fabrication processes, time, manual work and use.
